Helpful Hints
  • Allow wax to dry to a haze before removing. Wax should be powdery when buffing off.
  • When removing wax, use a very soft cloth. As soon as the cloth movement feels resistance, find a fresh surface.
  • High humidity and oxidation can both make wax more difficult to remove.
  • Remove wax once it has dried. Allowing the wax to sit or bake onto the finish will not leave a better shine. It will just be more difficult to remove.

Frequently Asked Questions

What works better—paste wax or liquid wax?
Paste wax and liquid wax work equally as well. While today's paste waxes are much easier to apply than they were in the past, some people feel that liquid wax is easier to apply and remove. It is simply a matter of preference!

What should I use to apply wax?
A clean, damp rectangular kitchen sponge makes a good applicator, as the corners will allow you to get into tight spaces. Otherwise, a clean, soft cloth works fine. Make sure to dampen it first.

Why is it not recommended to apply wax in direct sunlight?
When your car's paint finish is hot, it "bakes" the wax, hardening it so that it is difficult to remove. To make removal easy, apply wax out of direct sunlight and only when your finish is cool to the touch. In addition, wax and buff small sections at a time to avoid letting the wax sit too long.
